MAKING A CLAIM

The checklist below is not an exhaustive list but provides some circumstances that might help you understand the Do's and Dont's when making a claim. We have provided below some claim types and information about these. For more information simply contact us today.

Theft or Criminal Acts

Do:

  • Report the criminal act to the Gardai/ police and note their Crime Identification number on the claim form.
  • Provide details of the details of the date and location that the crime occurred on the claim form along with the full circumstances of its discovery.
  • Describe the security measures in place, including anti theft devices on your vessel or engine.
  • Obtain written quotations for repairs or replacement as appropriate.
  •  

 

Do Not:

  • Commence repairs without the written consent of your insurers. If you do not have the agreement of insurers, you risk prejudicing your claim.
  • Delay unnecessarily in reporting the loss to Yachtsman Euromarine.
  •  

 

Please Note:
You may also be required to provide proof of ownership and such other documentation (i.e. registration papers, survey papers etc.) to establish the bona fides of your claim.

The amount approved for the repairs (if applicable) will form the basis of settlement subject to the terms and conditions of your policy. 

Neither, Yachtsman, underwriters, nor surveyor/ assessors appointed by them will instruct repairers directly. If the repairs proposed are in order, then the instruction to proceed, based on a quantified amount, will go to you. It is then up to you to instruct the repairers of your choice as you see fit.

You can at any time appoint your own loss assessor/ surveyor to handle your claim, but the cost of this will be at your own expense.

 

Third Party Collisions 

Do:                   

  • Enclose any original correspondence unanswered from the Third Party, his / her agent or solicitor. If they wish to present a claim for property damage under your policy, they will require an estimate.
  • Enclose the decision of the protest committee if applicable.
  • Obtain written quotations for your own repairs or replacement as appropriate.
  • Complete the claim form in full, advising full name and contact details of the third party involved and of witnesses.

  • Commence repairs without the written consent of your insurers. If you do not have the agreement of insurers, you risk prejudicing your claim.
  • Do not admit liability.
  • Do not reply to third party correspondence. Refer instead to Yachtsman Euromarine.
  • Delay unnecessarily in reporting the loss to Yachtsman Euromarine.

Third Party Injury Claims

Do:                   

  • Enclose any original correspondence unanswered from the Third Party, his / her agent or solicitor. 
  • Complete the claim form in full, advising full name and contact details of the third party involved and of witnesses.
  •  

 

Do Not:             

  • Do not admit liability.
  •  Do not reply to third party correspondence. Refer instead to Yachtsman Euromarine.
  •  Delay unnecessarily in reporting the loss to Yachtsman Euromarine. 

 

Frost 

Do:                   

  • Provide full details of the incident as part of your claims form describing the circumstances that lead to its discovery.
  • Provide full details of winterisation process followed, along with the invoice of the professional who has carried out this work.
  • Provide full details of the storage of your vessel over the winter season in which the loss occurred.
  •  

 

Do Not:             

  • Commence repairs without the written consent of your insurers. If you do not have the agreement of insurers, you risk prejudicing your claim.
  • Delay unnecessarily in reporting the loss to Yachtsman Euromarine.

When the Vessel and / or Engine has been Submerged

Do:                   

  • If your vessel has been submerged / sank, get in contact with Yachtsman Euromarine immediately.
  • Mitigate your loss. Take all reasonable steps to prevent further loss/ damage from occurring. This is a condition of your policy. 
  • Your engine will need the attention of a professional promptly to minimize damage caused by submersion a thorough draining and lubrication with be urgently required.
